The work has a broad association with landscape and is resonant of marks made by cultivation, ancient and modern. I work building up the layers with palette knife and gesso and each layer obscures or reveals something of the previous. I tend to work mostly in monochrome and am interested in exploring the tonal values and intensity of one colour.
I consider myself more a drawer than a painter. My training and background is in design and this has had a significant effect on my understanding of form, proportion and mark making and has been instrumental in the development of a graphic approach to the work.
